The birthday of natural selection’s co-discoverer, Alfred Russel Wallace, was yesterday, noted by Stranger Fruit.  Coincidentally I am reading a book by Tim Severin, A Spice Islands Voyage, about his travels in Wallace’s footsteps in eastern Indonesia.
