though sale of Alberta fossils seems to be tightly controlled, if not outright forbidden, Drumheller shops have no shortage of fossils obtained from other jurisdictions in the USA and beyond.  I indulged myself in a few purchases, including this little Devonian trilobite.

Biking a week ago, we followed the edge of the Fraser and discovered an interesting sliver of the city.  A little high-end enclave (to the right in photo) of manicured gardens and backyard jetties.

Spotted this coyote making its way back to Pacific Spirit park. Didn't register our presence or seem to care. Just kept on its way past our vehicle.  I've seen a number of coyotes over the years, usually at dawn or dusk. This mid-day sighting was unusual.

Tonight we enjoyed, as we do each year, the Festival of Lights at Van Dusen Botanical Garden.  Not as spectacular this time without a snowy dressing. Still, it twinkled with the usual magic.

Cloudy but so what?  The ocean is a perfect holiday, and the stretch of coast south from Seaside, Oregon is spectacular. Rockaway Beach is a gem. We press on to Lincoln City today.

With Ocean's Day freshly past, a great lecture and beautiful, horrible images. National Geographic photographer Brian Skerry shows the war on the ocean through his lens.
